Tetradrachm of Tyre in Phoenicia. 285-246 B.C. The Ptolemys were the designated rulers of the Egyptian territories conquered and proclaimed by Alexander the Great of Macedonia. Diademed head of Ptolemy I (Soter), friend of Alexander since boyhood. Rx: Eagle standing on thunderbolt 'l' in field; TYP monogram above club; and in the r. field the regnal date 'KE' in monogram form. This regnal year equates to 261/260 B.C. VF+ on good silver. Sear 7773, Svoronos 650, BMC 6.31,78.
