The Egyptian coins of the 1st Republic (1953 - 1958 AD) begin the tradition of presenting themes based upon the glory days of Ancient Egypt. The very first of 1954 show a ground level view of Sphinx, as a tourist might see it. This coin here celebrates the Evacuation of the British and shows a person in traditional Ancient Egyptian clothing with broken chains, holding a torch, and in a pose that evokes "follow me". It's reminiscent of Moses leading his people out of Egypt. This example is problem free, better ones are quite scarce, much luster shows but not in this photo.
