A very scarce token of Fort Bowie, Arizona Territory. No Date but in use from 1884 - 1890. Troop 'C' 4th U.S. Cavalry - Good For One Game. Supplied by the Brunswick Balke Collender Company as a CHECK for equipment used. A study of SW tokens reveals that this company issued many tokens for concerns that used Brunswick Billiards equipment. Fort Bowie, site today of a U.S. Park Service National Historic site was instrumental in protecting local ranchers and miners from Chiricahua Apaches. They also protected Apache Pass , a main route between El Paso and Tucson Presidios, from Indian attack. This pass was famous for the Apache Pass Battle during the American Civil War and started the long battle between the US Military and the Chiricahua Apaches. This Indian war eventually concluded with the capture/surrender of Geronimo in March of 1886, within the dates of issue of this token.
