Proof Martin Luther King Jr. piece that was struck at the Brussels mint in 1970 for the 10th Anniversary of Independence from France. Doing a quick review of KM, I believe this is the best portrait of Dr. King on regular coinage and is by far the lowest mintage. Chad is a land locked country with a varied terrain and around 200 different cultural heritages. The MLK piece has the same reverse as the other featuring a bold view of the continent of Africa where Chad is outlined in the central area of the Sahara desert. This 200 Francs coin has a mintage at 952 struck, all in proof. A set was issued featuring MLK and the two Kennedy brothers, all three were assassinated.
Martin Luther King Jr. (January 15, 1929 – April 4, 1968) was an American Baptist minister and activist who became the most visible spokesperson and leader in the civil rights movement from 1955 until his assassination in 1968. Born in Atlanta, King is best known for advancing civil rights through nonviolence and civil disobedience, tactics his Christian beliefs and the nonviolent activism of Mahatma Gandhi helped inspire.
