Another wonderful design by R. Romagnoli by way of a little propaganda piece for the cause of Fascism in Italy before WWII. An 'Ideal' mother sits with her four children. With a baby at her breast the whole scene evokes Michaelangelo's "Pieta" with Mother Mary holding the body of Christ Jesus. The obverse features the portrait of Vittorio Emanuele III. This is the scarcer issue of 1937 with 100k struck vs. the 1936 with over 1 M minted.
