There are only four (4) of this variety known. Tentatively cataloged in the Colver and Harley system as KM# Tn2 CH-8 (unlisted as yet) variety. It's place in the variety set was cataloged as 1-D in the ANS, American Numismatic Society site, by Cox. These varieties are best described in Randy Snyder's article in "Penny-Wise" Vo. 40, No. 5 (Sep 2006). As a 1-D variety it is described as Obverse: Small ship, 13 palm leaves, 15 sun rays, '1' in date is to the left of the tree trunk. Bush top at water line. Palms 7th leaf tip is between lower serif of 'I' and 'B.' Reverse: Wide Spaced 'A. D.,' tiny center dot & extra period shows on early strikes. All show boldly re-punched tops of 'FOUND,' tops of 'ON,' and bottom of 1st 'O' in Colonization. Date: Second '1' of 1816 is left of upright of 'D' (of A.D.).
This completes my collection of all known varieties of this iconic and historical token. Besides the Randy Snyder article, and here in the Moneta Museum, all of these varieties are illustrated and described no where else.
