This is a very rare coin that I found in a mixed lot. The Royal Mint minted 5 million of these. Part of the mintage was melted in the UK to recover the copper for the war effort. The rest were shipped to Hong Kong on two ships. One made it but after the Japanese took Hong Kong in late December 1941, it supposedly rounded up all coinage and melted it to support their war effort. The second ship was sunk in transit to Hong Kong. Most say that less than 100 pieces are extant today which accounts for its rarity.

That is the most exciting find I have ever heard of! That rarity needs to be authenticated, graded and slabbed.
