The Prince of Fu was the grandson of Ming Emperor Wanli. With the death of the last Ming emperor (Chongzhen) in 1644 the Prince of Fu was chosen as the new Emperor in June despite opposition due to his love of excessive drink. When the Manchus took Nanking in June of 1645 the Prince fled but he was captured and taken to Peking where he died the net year. While in power for that year he took the period title of Hong Guang.
