Gallic Empire. S 3130; RIC van Meter #64; refers to the defeat of a German invasion. Scarce! This is my second example in the Museum and it's in much better shape. Even this rare issue (the only Roman coin depicting the personification of the Rhine River?) indicates that various portrait types can be found with this reverse, this seems scarcer and looks more like someone else. Please see my other example. The Rhine river was the general location of the Limes, the fortified border wall between Gaul and Germania.
