The islands were settled by Greeks. It was under Roman, Byzantine, Venetian, French, and British rile in its history. After the Napoleonic Wars, ownership was ceded to Britain who controlled the islands until 1862 when it was ceded to Greece.
Early modern coinage was issued in 1801 by a short-lived republic. Britain issued coins from 1819 to 1862.
This is a two oboli coin minted in 1819.
