Listed in KM as of 'Uncertain Origin'. It is known that Yuan Shih-kai issue (Y 329) was re-struck by the Communist Soviets when the need arose. I am still researching if this was one of their issues that was countermarked or if this is a standard issue Y329 that they countermarked. Meaning of the 3 counterstamped characters (蘇維埃 "su wei ai") is "SOVIET." Very Scarce and I also have an obvious fake that I will present. While KM lists these as 26.4 gm, the Wenchao book (Shanghai Museum) lists various weights for this long lived issue (1914-1929). There now is a counterfeit one in the museum to compare this one to - CAUTION! Chinese sources and sellers connected to them, are selling fakes of this like mad! Fake countermarks may even be found on authentic YSK dollars and they may be found in FAKE slabs. Only buy PCGS/NGC/ANACS and then only after you check the Registration Number against the on-line database and photos. This now holds true for ALL Chinese coins sources and metals, including copper coins. Some of these are deceptive, especially if you have not handled many of them. Inexpensive Soviet Chinese coins do not exist anymore, they are a hot item and China is buying authentic pieces back into the country.
Here are a number of RARE articles on Communist Chinese Soviet coins & notes from the Moneta Library:
