Part of the Tai Ping Rebel era. Li Wenmao was the leader of the Guangdong Triad Society. He came to prominence in March of 1857 and occupied Liuzhou in Guangxi. He called himself the "Pingjing" or 'Restorer of Peace' King. He was defeated in the following year. The character 'sheng' (to vanquish) is found in the names of the lodges of the Heaven and Earth Society. The character 'ying' means garrison or camp, and the division into middle, rear, front, left, and right was a feature of the Triad Society's guerrilla armies.
