Aurelian (270 - 275 A.D.), IMP C AVRELIANVS AVG. Reverse: SOLI INVICTO.; Sol standing left, his right arm raised, in the other hand he hold a globe, 1 captive at his feet, star above. Silvered VF; this is a variety with only one captive rather than two. Similar to Sear 3169 & 11609, C.236, RIC 308 & 390; Tripolis mint.
Aurelian made the painful decision to abandon Dacia (see Trajan) in 271 AD and then attacked Zenobia & Valabathus in Palmyra in 272 AD. He also took the Gallic Empire by defeating Tetricus. He was killed while preparing to invade Sassanian territory
