Claudius II Gothicus (268 -270 A.D.). This scarce type celebrates C. Gothicus' famous victory over the GOTHS, one of those seminal events that changed the history of the world. In 269 AD he marched against an immense army of Goths, and though the Roman army was heavily outnumbered, Claudius won a great victory over the invaders at a battle fought at Naissus in Upper Moesia. In contact with the Goths the Roman army contracted a plague which spread through the army and claimed Claudius himself after a reign of only two years. This is a 2nd example in the Moneta Museum
