In a tip-of-the-hat to the basis of their traditional trading unit - the cowrie shell was introduced to their decimal coinage in 1971, the first and only date. One hundred 'cauris' equaled one Syli. In 1988 and second reform coinage resumed with the reintroduction of the Franc.
