RECREATION ROOM - Co. E. - 25th INF. Ft. Huachuca, AZ [Wa-chu-ka]. It's still here and operational since 1877 with a brief interlude in the '50's and 60's. Company "B" is listed in Birt, Co. "E" is not listed in Birt. Brass.
"Company E" of the "25th Infantry" It dates from between 1933 and 1947 when this Company of "Buffalo Soldiers" was stationed at Fort Huachuca, in Arizona.
Fort Huachuca, (pronounced wa-chu-ca), is a still active, United States Army installation located in southern Arizona. It is near the city of Sierra Vista. It began in 1877 as a new fort to counter the "Chiricahua Apache" threat and to secure the border with Mexico. Beginning in 1913, and lasting until it was temporarily closed in 1947, Fort Huachuca was home to the famed "Buffalo Soldiers" which was a name given by the Native Americans who fought them, to these Black Soldiers.
The "25th Infantry" was formed in 1869 with Black enlisted men and White officers. It saw service in the "Indian Wars", the "Spanish-American War", the "Philippine Insurrection" and in both World Wars. Fort Huachuca reopened in 1951 as an Air Force base due to the "Korean War" but returned to the Army a month later
