The series revolutions in Europe (1789 - 1917) largely bypassed Great Britain. However, associated with them was the Freehold Land reform movement that changed the relationship between the landless and the landlord. I hope to write a monograph on all of these movements in Europe - stay tuned...
This white medal commemorates James Taylor Jr. as Founder of the Freehold Land Society. The reverse banner states: "Social Improvement - Political Independence" and shows an idyllic home scene of a man and child in the garden of a single family home. Underneath border contains the small words "JAS. TAYLOR SR." and in exergue "FREEHOLD FRANCHISE". Richard Cobden was also instrumental in this movement. AU and obtained from Stephen Album.
