Robert Keelings was the first to issue tokens for the British Colony of Gibraltar [here spelled 'Gibralter.'] Here is an example of the 2 Quarts issued in 1802, the the Horizontal bars at the castle gate. Mr. Neville Chipulina has described the history of these merchant tokens at his site of the best - here's the : [ link ]
