Norsemen settled the islands around 800 though Irish monks had visited the islands in the 6th Century.
The only coinage was produced in 1941 by the British who occupied the islands while Denmark was under German rule.
This is a 5 øre coin from that period. These coins are similar to the Danish coins of the time but lack the mint officials and moneyer's initials.
