Sear's book on Byzantine coins depicts S #163, a follis type minted at the various officae in Constantinople, as a large type and a smaller one. This is an example of the smaller variety. Regnal year 29 (555/56 A.D.#, the small tick mark that crosses the exergue dividing line adds a year to what might look like year 28. The legend is typical. Officina gamma #3). VF, 31 mm; 16.6 gm.
