This Zhou (Chou) Anonymous Type 1 Square Shoulder Spade is held to be the earliest real coin (early Spring & Autumn period, 650-400 BC) . The example here conforms to rubbing representations in various sources. The latest book by David Hartill, "Cast Chinese Coins" is my primary source on this. This book is an absolute MUST if you collect Chinese Cash - only problem is changing your REF. numbers from all of your other references.

Coin is characterized by three parallel lines on both the front and back. The obverse may have a character (which may be to the right or left of the center line). Mr. Hartill's book shows nearly a complete listing of these characters - however, it does not show this one. The closest character I can find to this is 'Ming'; as it appears on some knife coins. The small hole often found in the handle appears absent. H-2. Length is ~ 91 mm x 51 mm; weight with filled and chipped handle is: 35.4 gm. This character type is undocumented. See Comments below.

There was some suspicion that this coin was a fake, and although that still might be a possibility I have found this exact type of square shouldered, hollow handled spade for sale in a Stephen Album sale. Sale number is 222 (March 2007) and lot number 52068 at a price of $450. So this spade appears to be a previously undocumented type and from a new hoard and location. Comments welcome...
