The Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin existed until the end of World War I. Even though Germany was united in 1871 by Bismarck, States were permitted to issue 2 to 5 Mark coins under their cognizance. This is a 1904 2 Mark piece that was issued to celebrate the wedding of the Grand duke and Grand duchess.
