A Judaean coin from Ascalon where the Tenth Legion was stationed after being moved from Syria. This is a Vespasian period coin, not Roman, it follows the design of coins issued by Phoenician cities in the area. Obverse: Veiled and turreted bust of Tyche, right; 'X' in incuse square countermark. Reverse: Galley sailing right w/ sOP date. Rosenberger 53, RPC 2204, SNG ANS 679-82; 16.11 mm, 3.89 g. VF-.
