I've always wanted a coin with that mountains and blazing sun depiction but I settled for a smaller one. The silver coins of Nicaragua around this time show Francisco Hernández de Córdoba, the Spanish conquistador considered the founder of Nicaragua and namesake of the córdoba currency. While it's NGC 62 it looks kinda AU to me. This issue year saw 220 k of these struck, I assume the 'H' represents the Heaton mint in the UK. OB: Coat of arms, with date, pure gold weight and fineness at base. Legend around. REPUBLICA DE NICARAGUA, 1975, 17.28 GR. ORO FINO LEY 900 •AMERICA CENTRAL• Rx: Betsy Ross sewing US flag on left, astronaut placing US flag on moon on right. Legend: HOMENAJE A LOS ESTADOS UNIDOS DE AMERICA 1776 1976 2000 CORDOBAS [Translation: Tribute to the USA 1776-1976 2000 Cordobas] Mintage for this NCLT [non-circulating legal tender] BU issue is just 320, with a proof version of just 100. There are at least three other coins in this series for the US Bicentennial, the other design features the Liberty Bell. They're struck in various denominations in gold and silver. Curiously, other NCLT issues for 1975 target the UN, and the Vatican. The other special issues is for Earthquake relief. I'm thinking these out of place coins have something to do with currying favor for help with the earthquake (Dec '72). It took 20 years before Managua saw earnest efforts to rebuild.
