The Duchy of Anhalt-Dessau existed until the end of World War I. Even though Germany was united in 1871 by Bismarck, States were permitted to issue 2 to 5 Mark coins under their cognizance. This is a 3 Mark commemorative issued in 1914 to celebrate the silver anniversary of the marriage of the Duke and Duchess.
