The Grand Duchy of Baden existed until the end of World War I. Even though Germany was united in 1871 by Bismarck, States were permitted to issue 2 to 5 Mark coins under their cognizance. This is a commemorative 2 Mark coin to mark the golden anniversary of the Duke and Duchess.
