Pictured is a small terra-cotta figure that is one of the most original and characteristic products of pre-Columbian Veracruz culture. The smiling faces (Carita sonriente) were placed in tombs as an offering, which were supposedly endowed with magical powers to be able to sing and dance in the life to come for those who had passed away.
